This collection of work synthesizes my professional development as an instructional designer and my academic experience as an educator and mentor in the field of English Language Arts (ELA) and composition studies.
My interest in designing and teaching ELA learning experiences began over twenty years ago at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and since then, I have been led through multiple teaching, professional, and community advocacy opportunities grounded in the ethos
QUALITY WRITING IS QUALITY THINKING
Most recently, I completed the MEd. program in Learning Design and Technology at nationally-ranked Arizona State University (ASU) and am currently employed as a faculty associate within the ASU Writers' Studio.
In this capacity, my interests in the English language, education, and learning design have centered on three pedagogical questions:
~ How does meaningful, relevant writing instruction enhance the learning process?
~ How do both collaborative and self-directed educational experiences engage and inform the learner to create transferrable writing competency?
~ How should the latest innovations in multimodal technology and artificial intelligence be integrated into quality writing instruction?
While my journey as an English Language Arts professional and researcher is far from over, I recognize many themes and priorities (re)surfacing during my time as an academic, and I invite you to explore this portfolio as a showcase of my work and development.
